Helping to Improve Drinking Water

Mainstream Water Solutions Inc., a local water treatment company, is carrying out a project to enhance the quality of drinking water in Saskatchewan communities. Working in collaboration with the University of Regina, Communities of Tomorrow (CT), and the National Research Council of Canada, Mainstream is developing a method to remove arsenic from municipal drinking water. 

Recent changes in the Saskatchewan Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality decreased the maximum allowable concentration (MAC) for arsenic from 25 to 10 parts per billion. At least 20 communities in the province have a drinking water supply that slightly exceeds the MAC for arsenic. Municipalities are required to adjust their treatment systems to the new regulations by 2010. [Read More]

Mark MacLeod, Volunteer Chair of the CT board of directors, believes CT has a promising year ahead. “CT is continuing to grow its project list with new technologies and projects,” he says. WCWWA Annual Conference

The Western Canada Water and Waste Water Association’s Annual Conference will be held in Regina from September 23-26.  The organizing committee is currently accepting Abstracts for consideration. Submissions are encouraged from municipalities; senior government agencies involved in the water, wastewater and environmental sector; relevant non-government agencies; as well as from practitioners in the private sector, the research community, students and young professionals.  The deadline for submission of abstracts is March 20, 2008.  Visit www.wcwwa.ca for further information.

First International Conference on Transportation Infrastructure

In recognition of the importance of sustainable transportation infrastructure, iSMARTi, the International Society for Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Transport Infrastructures, is launching this international conference series to address the various issues pertaining to the development, design, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of the infrastructures of the different modes of transportation.
